Author Bio:
An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes. When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.
What inspires you to write?
Music. My novel Blessed came from listening to Elton John's song Blessed. Mind you this changed the longer I worked on the novel. Real-life issues also make me think. I think so much that I begin drafting a story from what I see on TV, read about in the newspaper, or hear on the radio. Or what is happening at the grassroots level.
Tell us about your writing process.
I'm part panster and part planner. I start with a blurb first. From the blurb I begin building the story. I devise character arcs. Everything is subject to change, though. As I begin drafting, the characters begin steering the ship.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
No. They are only allowed out of their closet when I sit at the computer to write. I do daydream about them. Or when I work out, I devise playlists for the latest book I'm writing, based on how the characters are feeling.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love reading books about Indigenous women of North America. Vella Munn, Beverly Bird, Sue Harrison, and Rosanne Bittner always keep me up late.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I went with a publisher. I wanted to learn everything about publishing a book, so I felt this was the best route for me. I enjoy working with eXtasy books and my editor.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I don't think too far ahead. Whatever happens, I know I'll adapt to the changes because that's what I do best.
What genres do you write?
contemporary romance, m/m romance, erotic romance, multi-cultural romance, historical romance
What formats are your books in?
eBook, Print
