What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
I sold real estate in downtown Chicago for five years and came across a few less-than-honest real estate agents during that time. People in my office would often joke, saying things like, "That guy would murder his own mother to get both sides of the commission." My husband suggested that I write a book about a realtor who creates situations that cause people to buy and sell real estate –divorce, job loss, pregnancy, vandalism, etc. My villain, Jacqueline, was born from that idea.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
The main character, Mara, had to be someone who was naive and desperate because she had to be willing to go along with Jacqueline's schemes at first. Mara's sister battles cancer and her parents cannot pay the medical bills, which gives Mara extra incentive to ignore Jacqueline's wrongdoing.
