Author Bio:
Award-winning author, Pamela S. Thibodeaux is the Co-Founder and a lifetime member of Bayou Writers Group in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Multi-published in romantic fiction as well as creative non-fiction, her writing has been tagged as, “Inspirational with an Edge!” ™ and reviewed as “steamier and grittier than the typical Christian novel without decreasing the message.”
What inspires you to write?
I've been an avid reader my entire life. In my early twenties I was discouraged after reading one-too-many disappointing stories. That was the impetus to begin writing. As for what inspires me now….I honestly don't know as I haven't been inspired much since my husband's death in 2009.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am 100% seat-of-the-pants writer. Sometimes a thought or a dream will occur or even a snippet of conversation will inspire me and the story unfolds as I sit with it on a regular basis.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Oh yes, all the time! In fact, I had to change names of 2 characters in my novel, The Visionary, so I asked them…What can I call you? Both answered and the names turned out to fit them perfectly.
Who are your favorite authors?
I am a big fan of Julie Lessman, Karen Kingsbury and Francine Rivers but just about anything by Nora Roberts will keep me up all night reading.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
With the exception of one WF novel and 2 NF books, all of my indy-published titles were previously issued by small press publishers. I enjoy both. Personally I feel having my work with a publishing house gives more credit to my writing ability. That said, some things just don't fit the guidelines or are time sensitive (like my devotional Love is a Rose) so I opt to self-publish them.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
It's no secret self publishing and Amazon have put a strain on traditional publishing — even with a small press. However, I believe the need for quality books will remain and people will continue to purchase traditionally published books.
What genres do you write?
Inspirational, Romance, Women's Fiction, Non-fiction
What formats are your books in?
eBook, Print

Thanks for the opportunity to be interviewed on your blog!
Wonderful interview! Pamela, it’s good to know I’m not the only 100% seat of the pants writer still pounding out stories. 🙂 Love that you talk to your characters too, because I can’t imagine getting a story written without doing that. Praying for inspiration!
I wrote my first book (YA anti-bully novel) because as a middle school teacher, I felt there were not enough good books with male protags. I think we writers tend to do that–just write something ourselves and one-up what’s out there! Nice to follow you and good luck.
Nice interview, Pamela. I agree that traditional publishing will continue to play a big role in the industry. But I don’t think we will ever return to the days when that was the only option. It’s great we have choices today!
Thanks for the interview, Pam. You are a busy woman, and I agree that it’s a good thing to have a publishing house behind you. Indy is great, too, for some real finds. Cheers
Great interview! Your writing sounds so interesting.
Hi Pam,
I’ve wondered about the future of publishing, with so many unproven self-published authors flooding the market. I’ve been very disappointed in self-published stories, and so I’ve learned to check to ensure the novels I purchase are published by a legitimate traditional publisher.
Loved the interview and I think it’s great that you talk to your characters. Too funny! Good luck to you!
Learned something new every day. Thanks, Pamela.
Very interesting interview, Pam. Best wishes.
I enjoyed learning more about you, Pamela, particularly that you talk with your characters. So glad to know I’m not the only one! Sometimes I think we write to share our imaginary friends with others. (smiling)
Enjoyed the interview. I love that you receive responses from your characters. Mine are stubbornly silent. 🙁 Best wishes!
Wow…Thank YOU ALL for taking time out of your busy days to visit and comment on this interview.
Good luck and God’s blessings to EACH of you!
