Author Bio:
Ben Dobbs, born 1961 in Nashville Tennessee and currently residing in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Currently working as a deputy sheriff for the Haywood County North Carolina Sheriff’s Office. Thirty year law enforcement officer and firefighter. Previously worked for the Greenville Police Department and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office which are located in Pitt County North Carolina. Specialized in child abuse investigations and was assigned to major crimes investigations for fourteen years. Married with three biological and two step children. Author of the children’s and youth book series The Spruce Hollow Gang Adventures. It has been my desire to publish books for children and I have my first books on the market at this time.
The book series starts with A Titanic Adventure, and continues as follows. A Gettysburg Adventure, The Shenandoah Amusement Park Adventure, The Anne Frank Adventure, The Russian Snowman Adventure, The Native American Adventure, The Mountain Feud Adventure, and The Salem Witch Hunt Adventure. I hope you enjoy all of them.
It is my hope that the series will succeed and I will be able to continue to write new adventures. I also hope someday to be able to go to children’s hospitals such as Saint Judes to give away books and spend time reading with the children. Thank you for your support.
What inspires you to write?
I have always loved children and wanted to produce a series that does not contain graphic violence, sex, alcohol, and drugs.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am a seat of the pants writer to a certain extent. However since I write altered history, I do a lot of research on historical events.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Of course, my characters are loosely based on real children so I can think back about the characters as they were growing up in my presence.
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I tried traditional publishers but they will not give you the time of day. I tried a self publish company that was a very dishonest company. I finally published through Amazon/Kindle but now I am facing the challenge of advertising. I do not have the funds it takes for an agent or high powered advertising.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
If someone does not figure out a way for hopeful authors to advertise their books nationwide without high cost I fear there will be fewer writers. Many good authors will never have the opportunity because of the expense involved.
What genres do you write?
Children's/juvenile Action, adventure, historical.
What formats are your books in?
