“Our Mission is the Animals”
Julian Starks 2018
“My dream, thus mission in life is to travel the world and photograph beautiful, vibrant animals in all places and circumstances, free and confined.”
Julian Starks – 2018
I am a Los Angeles based Photographer, Filmmaker and Animal Activist writing on behalf of VISIONS OF THE WORLD Inc., my 501(c)(3) Non-Profit company. Our first project was “LIFE Behind Bars” Vol. 1, my first Fine Art Photography book. The book was titled after the photographic series that I started in order to honor the beauty of animals in captivity, and to support the many individuals and organizations that have dedicated themselves to caring for and protecting these magnificent beasts.
I began my journey of photographing these amazing animals at TIPPI HEDREN’S SHAMBALA PRESERVE. I fell in love with the animals and the work that Tippi is doing there. This has truly been my inspiration! So much so, that Henson, Shambala’s Regal Male Lion, graces the front cover of this book. The book consist of 12 other Zoos, Preserves and Sanctuaries, as well.
I created Visions of the World Inc., to help support wild animal sanctuaries and institutions like those featured in this book. A percentage of all proceeds from the book; photos and all other ancillary products will go to the sanctuaries and institutions featured within these pages.
Next project…Visions of the World Inc. presents…
“LIFE Behind Bars…Except if You’re Free” VOL. 2 which will focus on the conservation efforts of the Gorillas and Big African Cats in their natural habitat – Africa!
We are dedicating this second book in this series of books to DIAN FOSSEY, whose work regarding the conservation of the Mountain Gorilla’s has been an inspiration for our project.
Secondly, we are also covering the big African cats, which are among the most charismatic species in the world. However, despite their iconic status the public is neither fully aware of their endangered status nor understands the difficulties encountered by those who want to preserve these magnificent animals in their local environment.
The first goal of this project is to present the safaris in Rwanda (Gorillas) & Kenya and Tanzania (Big Cats) as models of species protection and conservation. The second goal of this undertaking is to create an emotional connection through pictures between people and the animals. The third goal is the ultimate comparison book of Animals in captivity! vs. Animals in the Wild! Gorillas and Big Cats!
Finally, we intend to document on film all the animals in the safaris, zoos and sanctuaries as well as Julian Starks’s experience in photographing them. We intend to use these images for a TV/Web Docu-series.
Through this project we intend to give a voice to the voiceless and to stay true to our mission statement, which is to raise awareness, change perceptions, educate and support those who need representation.
Thank you and stay safe.
Live Long, Prosper & Peace to all!
Sincerely,
Julian Starks – Founder/CEO/Photographer
