What inspires you to write?
I love to read books that inspire me and teach me how to improve myself. I want to write books like that for other people!
Tell us about your writing process.
The first thing I do is brainstorm and begin putting ideas into potential chapters through a rough-draft outline. To get into the writing zone, I listen to music. The type of music depends on what kind of a book I’m writing and what mood I want to get into. Sometimes I light a candle and I almost always have a delicious snack on my desk to much on. Before typing, I do a lot of research on the topic and begin brainstorming in outline form.
Who are your favorite authors?
I've read many books that had a powerful influence on me, so I don’t have a favorite author. I love many of the writers from the past, but I’m also inspired by living authors who are out there creating books, engaging their readers, and living their dream. That energy definitely rubs off on me and I want to do more! I would be thrilled to be called someone else’s favorite author some day!
What genres do you write?
How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I love to learn new things and then immediately teach them to other people, so writing nonfiction is a natural fit for me! I might try writing fiction one day, but I currently have way too many nonfiction book ideas to get published first!
What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?
I like a clean workspace, although I also surround myself with things that make me smile. I have cute little souvenirs from countries around the world where I have traveled, because I absolutely love to travel and am usually busy planning my next trip. I also have a little statue of Groot from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy, simply because he makes me smile. And finally, I have a picture of my awesome family.
What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
I've been traveling all over the world, someplace awesome almost every month. Free is my jam, so I created EmptyNestTravelHacker to share my travel tips and tricks. I adore watching movies, so I post my movie reviews on MovieReviewMom.
