Author Bio:
Karina Kantas is a prolific author of 13 titles. Including the gritty MC thriller series, OUTLAW and the exciting YA fantasy duology, Illusional Reality.
She also writes short stories and when her imagination is working overtime, she writes thought-provoking dark flash fiction.
There are many layers to Karina’s writing style and voice, as you will see in her flash fiction collection, Heads & Tales and in UNDRESSED she opens up more to her fans, giving them another glimpse into her warped mind.
When Karina isn’t busy working on her next bestseller, she’s a publicist, author manager and VA. She’s also the host of the popular radio show, Author Assist on the Artist First Radio Network and host of the YouTube show, Behind The Pen.

What inspires you to write?
Life, people, movies and books.
Tell us about your writing process.
First I write the old fashioned way with pen and paper. I would sit outside a coffee shop listening to my MP3 and people watch while making notes and writing scenes. Then I later I would type everything up.
I'm not much of a plotter, but I always have an idea of the way I want to go. I have the beginning – almost always a conflict of some sort, I have the title and the main characters.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes, most authors hear voices in our heads and yes, we have to listen to them. They are the ones that tell us which path to take and also stop us from moving forward if they're not happy with the direction we want to take.
Who are your favorite authors?
Tolkien – He helped me with my paranormal romance duology, Illusional Reality
J.K.Rowling – also leant a hand with Illusional Reality
S.E.Hinton – was the reason I became a writer and wrote my first novel, In Times of Violence and The OUTLAW MC series
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I started many years ago when eBooks had never been invented. So although you could publish your own paperbacks from the likes of Lulu, it was still better to find an agent and get into the top publishing houses.
I submitted In Times of Violence and the first book of Illusional Reality and gave up after so many rejections, which they were right to send.
I decided to go the self-publishing route and first used a vanity press, which I got burnt really badly by and still paying for it now. Then I decided to leave out a middle man and go totally independently.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think Amazon and Kindle opened the doors to many wonderful writers that would never have thought or had the opportunity to write and sadly many terrible writers, who thought they could write and published awful books.
I hope bookstores and other online book shops, knock Amazon off the market place. As the royalties we receive are ridiculous as is the way independent authors are treated.
