Interview with Author – Marisa Wright

Interview with Author – Marisa Wright

Scottish by birth, Australian by choice, Marisa’s love of dance was sparked at the age of three by a performance of La Fille Mal Gardée by the Royal Ballet. When childhood illness thwarted her dreams of a ballet career, she turned her creativity to writing, finishing her first novel by the age of 17 (the grainy photo gives a clue how long ago that was — Marisa is the one in the blue headband).

As her health improved, dance again took centre stage in her life. In recent years, she has returned to her typewriter (or rather, her laptop) to revive her love of writing romance.

For me, playing is the best — playing outdoors in nature or in my garden, experimenting in the kitchen, spending time with those I love. I also enjoy disappearing into a good book, attempting crafts, learning, writing, exploring, discovering. I especially like to mix it up and have yet to perfect any of it, and I’ve come to realize that perfection’s not the point. It’s all wonderfully fun. That’s the point!

I prefer authentic and natural, be it food, lifestyle, people. I passionately enjoy both history and science, and certainly sociology to a degree, and I am most truly a romantic.

My husband and I have been married for over forty years. We reside near Houston, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. We have a blast with our little grandchildren.

I thank God for this wonderful life.

Interview with Author – Karen Hamilton-Viall

I started writing stories at 7 years old and began my first novel at 19, but it wasn’t until the first lockdown that I had the idea for a crime solving psychic who could use her abilities to aid her in her investigations. I wrote the book within a few months, before passing it to friends to beta read for me. In my day job, I teach history to kids in fun, hands-on workshops. My passions for ghosts and for history have been combined in my book, The Curious Life of Ada Baker.

Dennis the poltergeist in my novel was inspired by a real poltergeist that I experienced in an Edwardian flat when I was 19. Twenty-five years later, I still think about him almost every day. I followed an unusual route to publication. At the end of my interview with psychic Mike Baker, he suggested I should approach a publisher in Cambridge with a K or C name. I thought why not give it a try, and that’s how I found Cranthorpe Millner.

Interview with Author – Rachel Boehm

Interview with Author – Rachel Boehm

Rachel Boehm is an award-winning journalist, turned workplace wellness organizer and advocate. Her experiences with school and workplace bullying, fat shaming, disordered eating, perfectionism, and verbal and emotional abuse began at a young age and continued into her late-twenties.

Embracing a survivor’s mindset, Boehm now views her journey as a calling to transform the way individuals and organizations view well-being, the beauty of the human body, metrics of success, and the fragility of time.

Boehm was raised in Austin, Texas. A love for the fine arts, film, and television took her to Southern California for undergraduate studies and to pursue a career in the industry.

A quarter-life crisis fueled by the tumultuous nature of the industry and a realization of society’s flawed definitions of beauty and success, sent her on a multi-year soul-searching quest. She traveled back to Austin, then on to the UAE, Syria, Jordan, Europe, and New York City, before accepting a graduate studies scholarship with American University in Journalism and Public Affairs. Following commencement, she moved to Northern Virginia.

This journey is detailed in her memoir I Am NOT!, which in many ways provides the backstory for her 2018 self-published collection of quips and lessons learned, Tripping in Public.

Today, Boehm works at an individual and organizational level to change the dialogue around the workplace well-being experience. She shares her story and works to help others: redefine success and beauty; develop mindfulness and self-compassion; and embrace the art of the “always something” mindset.

Through her many endeavors (day job, side hustle, and private practice), Boehm seeks to help everyone bring their best selves to work and life, and to truly love the skin they’re in.

Interview with Author – Sammie Marsalli

Interview with Author – Sammie Marsalli

As an author I am certainly not an expert or an authority on Alzheimer’s. I am definitely not a professional author and didn´t pretend to write an authoritative masterpiece. I never pretended to be either one of those things. I am simply an ordinary “John Doe” caregiver, husband sharing my experiences living and caring for my wife with Alzheimer’s. We have been married 43 years, 3 kids now grown up, a great dog most of those years, a typical family on our own trying to hold on to my wife and avoid her shutdown. I began to realize there are probably other “amateur” folks like me on their own trying to take care of a loved one with this disease and possibly could benefit from my shared personal experiences. Soon this diary turned into this book.

This book started out as a daily diary of how my wife´s behavior was dramatically changing and how I was affected and began to relate to her differently. Writing helped me ventilate my deepest emotions and reactions in private as they were too personal to express to others. Somehow writing “alleviated” my continuous sorrow but also indirectly helped me make personal decisions and changes in how to interact with her behavioral changes. Taking notes almost daily seemed to be my personal escape.

Preventing Her Shutdown is my desperate effort to keep my wife with Alzheimer’s “connected”. In Real Time there are very personal unloaded feelings, emotions and reactions expressed, never confided to anyone while slowly losing my wife.

There are no two profile behavioral changes alike with Alzheimer´s. I describe these dramatic changes with my wife who is in the beginning of the advanced stages. My reactions have always been intuitive in my desperate attempts to keep her “connected” with me, family and her surroundings. Real time experiences and actions “racing against the Alzheimer’s clock” to keep her communicating and interacting every day, even though she no longer speaks are detailed in my never-ending battle to prevent her shutdown.

Interview with Author – Gerry Cullen

ABOUT GERRY
Before embarking on writing my first book BETWEEN WORLDS: MY TRUE COMA STORY I worked in various business roles for 50 years.
It was in my last role that my writing career developed.
In the late eighties/early nineties I ran events for ITV TELETHON 90 and 92 with NEXUS and OASIS in Leeds. The highlight being having one of our events staged in the main arena at HAREWOOD HOUSE. Nexus awarded me Gold Card status for my achievements. There were only eight cards issued in the country. It was a prestigious award. My Events and shows were very entertaining and form part of my story.
After undergoing major open-heart surgery at LEEDS GENERAL INFIRMARY in March 2018 I received a “gift” out of my induced coma.
So far, I have written 7 books and 80 tv series to date. I had never written books or for tv prior to being in a coma.
I have decided to tell my true story to the World.
I have been advised that BETWEEN WORLDS: MY TRUE COMA STORY would make a wonderful movie.
I hope that through my words you will come to know that exceptional things can happen after being in a coma.
I know God has given me a second chance.
Thanks always, to my beloved partner for everything.
I live in West Yorkshire.
I am a coma survivor.
My true story continues today.
