Charles Siefken (1992-present) is a recent graduate of high school. This is his first book of many to be published. He currently resides in rural central Iowa where he enjoys reading sci/fi books and playing video games among other things. He is currently enrolled in our local college for automotive technician as well as working part time at a local garage as a mechanic. We have found a publisher, MasterKoda Select Publishing! Christopher Paolini was his inspiration to become a writer.
Wendy Siefken (1966-Present) Currently working full time as a tier one tech at a local call center. Wendy lives on a farm with her family and enjoys reading, gardening and other activities with her family and friends.
This all started as a school project for her youngest son and business partner, Charles Siefken, which has grown into a desire to be published.
What inspires you to write?
Video games, movies, books, life in general inspires us to write. Dreams that we have or we hear someone talk about. It all gives us ideas and inspires us to write.
Tell us about your writing process.
we are more of a fly by the seat of our pants type writer. We do sit down and work out the details but as far as the creation goes its a whim or an idea. We usually just discuss the outline of where we see the story going or what we feel a character would or would not do. We have an idea of what we are looking for in a character and have been blessed enough to find an artist who can pluck those ideas from our head and draw what we see in our minds.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
We do both. We listen to what they say they would or would not do, and we talk to them saying I think it would be possible for you to do this or that with the other characters.
What advice would you give other writers?
Our best advise that we were given a few years ago is never ever give up. Keep writing, keep learning and growing as an author and as a writer.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
We read an article about Amanda Hocking and how she decided to publish Indpendently. We followed in her footsteps. We read how she was able to publsh her book on amazon, Barnes and Noble as well as Smashwords. Then we discovered that he also published through CreateSpace and was able to have a paperback as well! We are now with a small publishing house called MasterKoda Select Publishing.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think that the indie way is the way of the future. The big six will always be around but I think that by and large the independent author and small publishing houses willing to take that chance on authors the big six refuse will become a mainstay in the publishing industry
