Shirley J. Davis is an advocate, speaker and author focusing on the disorder she understands best, her own, dissociative identity disorder (DID). Shirley lives in rural Illinois with her brother, his wife and their two young sons. She enjoys writing and spending time with her four-year old nephew Michael. Shirley also owns and operates a website dedicated to spreading awareness about dissociative identity disorder.
What inspires you to write?
I love the feedback I receive from those who read my work. It is a thrill and a humbling experience to have someone say my writing helped them on their life's journey.
Tell us about your writing process.
I will stew on an idea for days or even weeks and then once it is fully formed, begin to write it down.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
In the fiction I have written I hear and know the thoughts of my characters.

Pearl S. Buck, Harper Lee, and Thomas Harris
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to break into publishing my books by using the self-publishing site KDP.com until I can find a publishing house and a literary agent to pick me up.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I cannot see book publishing dying out because people need a means of escape and there is no better way to do so than curling up with a good book.
