Author Bio:
My name is Selena Haskins and I’m a native Washingtonian whose love for reading and writing started at the tender age of nine. My greatest loves are God and family and I use both as the central theme in all of my books. By writing in various genres, particularly, historical fiction, family saga, and romance, my stories cross the generation lines and bridges the gaps between modern and contemporary fiction. Following the paths of legendary who came before me, I simply want to continue writing good memorable stories that reflect a moral message. In my spare time, I love to watch basketball and cooking shows, and travel whenever I’m able.
What inspires you to write?
All of my 5 senses. Whatever I see, feel, taste, hear or smell.
Tell us about your writing process.
I write without an outline and spontaneously. In my busy life, I find that emailing myself ideas will help me not to forget them.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I create character interviews to make them feel real.
Who are your favorite authors?
Wow! I have a long list but I will try to narrow it down… I love Nathaniel Black, Leonard Pitts Jr., Bernice McFadden, J. California, Connie Briscoe, and the list goes on.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I decided to self-publish more than several years ago. I found that tradional publishing is too slow. You wait year and year before anyone notices your work and that was discouraging to me. So I felt instead of waiting on somebody else I could do it myself.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I'm happy that writers have decided to take charge of their own talents by becoming their own boss. I've met many successful self-publishers. In the future, I hope to see more creative stories that will create diversity of all cultures, races, and background. This will make our stories unlimited to a certain audience.
What genres do you write?
Historical fiction, romance. new adult, and poetry
What formats are your books in?
eBook, Print
