Author Bio:
Scott Rankin graduated with a degree in music education and spent his 20’s and 30’s as a successful music director, visual designer for marching groups, and a professional clinician for high school and college music programs.
In 2009 he was injured in a bicycle accident where he was instantly paralyzed. Today as a healing quadriplegic, Scott’s passion for teaching has been re-focused from music to writing Christian books and public speaking.
Scott Rankin is a gifted educator and effective public speaker. His ability to take complex subject matter, break it into bite-size pieces, and re-assemble those through simple, logical, and enjoyable teaching techniques makes his material easy to understand and hard to forget!
What inspires you to write?
I enjoy being a part of helping people reach success and finding nuggets of truth that bring them closer to God. My wife says I have a special gift for presenting information and teaching. So if I can use a God given ability, gift, or if you want to call it a “talent”… instead of burying my talent that has been given to me, I would much rather invest it into God's Kingdom.
Tell us about your writing process.
You can say I am an "outliner". In my process, I focus on a topic for a long time, speak with people about it, research it from both sides of the argument table. Next, I will throw out my opinion, and all others and ask God what He thinks about it and let His answers guide my outline process. I will put myself in the shoes of one opposing God and ask, "what would it take to convince me God's way is the best?" From there, I organize my collected data and speak to the audience as if I am God's ambassador desperately seeking the one lost lamb out of a hundred. Then I let my wife read it and she fixes most of my mistakes!
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Fiction? As a writer who seeks to lead people to "Truth"… well, I don't write non-truth! But I do try to pretend to be the bible character I am writing about. Even more though, I as the writer, strive to become the person I am trying to reach by the end of the book. If I can put myself in your shoes, maybe I can help you walk in God's.
