What inspires you to write?
Writing for me comes in different ways, in the sense that I never know when the creative muse will begin to knock on my brain crying to get out. Different things inspire me, such as reading books or watching movies in the genres I write. I am attuned to my creative vision and find that the voice inside me can whisper its inspiration at any time.
Tell us about your writing process.
I am definitely a seat-of-the-pants writer. The creative flow happens naturally, and I first like to write my story down on paper. Once the story is written, I go back and edit, edit, edit until my eyes bleed. This is where I can add particular details and emotions of my characters. While writing my stories, I do a TON of research and visit the setting of my stories. I can add important details that are correct to the area I'm writing about.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I love this question! I admit that I'm constantly talking to my characters in my head. The dialogue is easy and fun for me to write. When I was a young child, I always talked to myself in my imagination. I had no idea what that meant until I began writing.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Janet Evanovich. I've been reading most of her work lately. In fact, someone told me that my story, Point and Shoot for Your Life, reminded them of her writing. That was the greatest compliment I ever received. I also enjoy reading Ann Cleeves' Shetland series. I stumbled upon the show first, and then read the series, and interestingly enough, both the books and series are spectacular.
What genres do you write?
Paranormal mystery, chick lit/mystery/humor
How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I've had a long interest in the paranormal, as well as psychics. Because of this, it was a natural genre for me to write in. I have read other authors say to write what you know, or enjoy. I believe that statement. I also adore reading and watching stories/shows that have mystery and humor. It was a natural fit for me to write in that genre.
What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?
My WIP of the sixth book in my paranormal mystery series is currently all I'm writing. I used to freelance for a magazine and newspaper, but for now, I'm focusing on my series.
What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
I love to exercise, which includes, swimming, walking, bike riding, and yoga. I have also recently learned to throw pottery and created my first bowl. I plan to continue that journey.
