She is a superfan of fantasy and historical fiction stories and loves to write stories that she knows other superfans would love to read.
What inspires you to write?
I am a superfan of fantasy and historical fiction stories. I love to write stories that I know I would love to read myself. I love to get lost in a fantasy world where you feel as if you've been transported away from reality, at least for a little while. My goal is for my readers to feel that same way. I love to write stories that have twists and turns that no one will see coming. However, I also love to wtite stories that are familiar in a way. I love to write books that don't take themselves too seriously, reading should be for fun.
Tell us about your writing process.
I can't really call my writing a process. I write when the mood strikes me. I really don't plan my stories. I just write until I'm happy with a story, and then I edit later.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do listen to my characters. I want to make sure that their story is being told correctly.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Anne Easter Smith, Karen Harper and Rick Riordon. Books I could read over and over are Queen By Right, The Kane Chronicles and the Elizabeth mystery series by Karen Harper.
What genres do you write?
Fantasy
How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I chose to write fantasy books because you are able to write whatever you can imagine. You aren't constrained to historical dates or facts, you can make your characters do whatever you want and not worry about people being upset that you messed with history. I've tried to read alternate history stories, and while they are very well written, I have trouble wrapping my head around the changes that are made.
What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?
My laptop, my latest book and my cat Topanga.
What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
I love to visit National Parks with my husband. We live in Southern California, so we are fortunate to be surrounded by several that take less than a full day to drive to.
What formats are your books in?
