What inspires you to write?
So many things! Inspiration for me can come from the most random conversation with someone or most recently for The Worlds Duology from a YouTube video and asking myself what if? I have quite a few projects in the works right now that have all been inspired differently, it reminds me that inspiration can be found in the most unlikely of places.
Tell us about your writing process.
I start by journalling my ideas for a project and then I let them sit for a while until I know for sure they have the potential to become a story – usually when I can't stop thinking about them. I then go onto brainstorming and visualising the plot and characters. I'll start by outlining each chapter with a basic line of what I need to achieve in that chapter and then I begin drafting. I use the story beats from save the cat writes a novel to help me with pacing and the rest I give myself creative freedom with.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Sometimes ha-ha! The more into the drafting process I get, the more the characters feel very real to me. I don't talk to them, but I do have a very vivid imagination on how they'd react to certain situations and sometimes when I'm writing it's like they take over and tell their own story. I'm simply just the narrator. I care about them as much, or possibly even more than the characters from my favourite books.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have so many but I'll list the ones that have inspired me and given me encouragement through their own author journeys; Alison Gervais, Mary E. Pearson, Jennifer L. Armentrout and Adrienne Young. I'll read anything they write, anything at all!
What genres do you write?
Young Adult Fantasy
How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
It was an easy choice for me because it's always been the genre I love to read.
What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?
A coffee mug, journal and headphones.
What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
I love baking, in particular cakes. It's the decorating that I enjoy most and I like to push myself out of my comfort zone with it. I also like to go on a walk in nature, I find it helps me reset when I need a break from writing.
