Mark Taylor Author Bio:
I was born in Africa, on the Zambian Copperbelt. Later moving with my familty to New Zealand, which is where I grew up. From an early age, I have been interested in literature and the craft of writing. A scientist by trade, I am a poet by night.
What inspires you to write?
As a poet, a line drifts in to my mind which is interesting. Then the inspiration comes from those people around me, or the countryside or town-scape I am surrounded by, and the poem comes to me.
Tell us about your writing process.
The poem for me, is a kind of sculpture. A highly personal venture, which may or may not use rhyme. I don't generally outline poems, but occasionally, I will write the first line of each stanza to capture the concept that I have, before I flesh the rest out.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
The characters in my poems, walk and move around my mind. They might talk occasionally, so I can tell their story within the constraints of a few stanzas.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love Stephen King, especially his characterizations of ordinary people undergoing extraordinary situations. I also like Aldous Huxley, William Shakespeare, George Orwell, Walt Whitman, Homer, Mary Shelly and Arthur Conan Doyle.
What genres do you write?

How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I love poetry because there are constraints which you must work within, yet you can be inventive/creative and write whole new forms of poetry.
What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?

What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
