Interview with Author – Keath Silva


Keath Silva Author Bio:
Keath Silva is a non-binary trans man and poet in Los Angeles, California who also practices holistic healing arts. Keath is the author of King Crone and The Empty Nest, Lady Death and other Poems venerating Change and is the transcriber of Fire Heart The Life and Teachings of Traditional Healer of Belize Miss Beatrice Torres Waight. In his free time he is a hiker, avid gardener and sings in a chorus.

What inspires you to write?
I write to express profound feelings and epiphanies that roil around in the depths of my being and to support the trans community by sharing my lived experience as a trans person.

Tell us about your writing process.
My poems come to me spontaneously. I hear the first line in my mind and Ive got to get a pen and paper within 10 minutes and write the poem or it will be lost.

Who are your favorite authors?
TA-NEHISI COATES is one of my favorite authors. The Water Dancer was one of my all time favorites!

What genres do you write?
Poetry

How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I did not decide to be a poet. Poems just bubble up in my consciousness and I feel that it is my responsibility to write them down and publish them in service of healing and awareness.

What three things are on your writing desk at any given moment?
A plant, chocolate and a candle

What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
Hiking, dancing, gardening and singing
