What inspires you to write?
I'm inspired by the world around me and the smallest event can trigger an idea. The influences for my last book was simple inspiration from working in health care. You see so many families torn apart by the things they can't control, and emotions get high. It's interesting to me how I see religion often coming into play in a time of need. I also see how some people take advantage of others and it ends up being very unhealthy. I enjoyed exploring the darker side of something to be considered so safe.
Tell us about your writing process.
I never know how the characters will fully come out until I start typing. They get created as I go. It's like starting a seed, you start with a speck and then it blooms to life on their own. it just takes a little nourishing along the way. Once I start a character I begin to see their personality as the story unfolds. I always know what the story line is, but the characters have a life of their own.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
When I write I listen to my characters. You begin to adapt to their thought patterns. I believe you have too make them believable. After all, you are aiming to create believable, relatable characters to the general public so they enjoy the story. Characters personalities count.
Who are your favorite authors?
I just went through a faze of devouring all of Megan Miranda's books, I think I've read all her books now.
On an entire different level, Jane Austen.
As my first book ever read was Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, it will always be a special place in my heart and its truly my favorite.
I'm watching Ruth Ware right now. Her books are fantastic!
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Well, I found it was the most realistic way to get my books out there. I do believe they are worth reading so I thought, why Not?
There are so many tools available to self publishers out there. You have to be willing to put in the work. Also, you don't lose your own voice when you do it yourself. You have control of story, and your covers. I love choosing my book covers!
Its very time consuming, and slow going, but you have to start somewhere.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is endless. Like I said before, there already are so many tools to do it yourself, (brilliant).
You can create e-books, companies such as Amazon have the means to put your books into print, do the transaction, and mail it for you once you've put in the work to get it on the sites. The world is your oyster.
