Author Bio:
Karyn Pearson is the author of Spark (Hellfire Trilogy #1) and Inferno (Hellfire Trilogy #2). She is a full-time pet parent of her two dogs Nikki and Jamie. She has a B.A. in Anthropology and has explored dozens of cultures in her studies, but has imagined countless more. Karyn enjoys reading, playing action RPGs, and plotting the next adventure for her characters whenever she has a spare moment free of the dreaded and undefeated “puppy dog eyes attack.”
Her current projects include Embers (Hellfire Trilogy #3) and the first novel of her upcoming vampire series, Arcturian Bloodlines. When she’s not writing, Karyn can be found playing with her puppies or Googling various dangerous topics for novel research that make her constantly question why federal agents haven’t yet knocked down her front door.
What inspires you to write?
Many things inspire me. Sometimes I get an idea stuck in my head that won’t go away until I write it down. Other times, I’ll see something while I’m out shopping and it’ll be cool and interesting. And other times still, I’ll be playing video games, watching a TV show, or watching a movie, when suddenly the lightning bolt of inspiration strikes. Inspiration comes randomly, but when it does, I get on a writing roll and ride that train ’til it runs out of steam!
Tell us about your writing process.
I’m a bit of both. I outline some things, like major plot points, in a word doc or a little 5 x 7″ sketchbook, but all the stuff in between is done by the seat of my pants. I let my characters guide the direction of the story. I’d describe it as following around my characters and writing down things as they happen. Apart from outlining, I have done a few character sketches from time to time in the aforementioned sketchbook.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
Yes, I speak with my characters quite often. We’ve been known to enjoy long chats, or even get into heated arguments. Though, the latter typically happens when story developments result in a character ending up in an unfavorable situation. My characters are prone to resenting the things I put them through.
Who are your favorite authors?
Anything Rick Riordan or J.K. Rowling has written will typically keep me up at night. I’m also hooked on Susan Ee’s “Penryn and the End of Days” series.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Nothing really influenced me per se. I had always wanted to get my work published, I just happened to be very fortunate to have a friend who is self-published and wanted to start up her own indie publishing company. It seemed kind of like kismet, so I was one of the very first authors to sign on with her company once it got started up. I’ve been there ever since!
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think that the eBook industry will continue to grow as technology continues to advance. Our society is getting more and more digital every day, so I think that books in the future will likely follow the same path. However, I don’t think print books will become completely obsolete, but there may be less of them as time goes on.

Paranormal, Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic, Coming of Age, Fantasy, New Adult
