What inspires you to write?
I'm inspired by books I've read, both fiction and non-fiction, and by nature, and my knowledge of Yoruba mythology.
Tell us about your writing process.
Most times I just start writing and allow the characters to grow, to be themselves, to act according to their nature, I allow the conflict to grow organically and then to be resolved according to my moral view of the world.
I hardly do outlines.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I use my work as an actor to leverage on this. I do allow them to talk, and I talk to them, which is why I love secluded places when doing this, so that folks wont think I'm crazy.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Grisham, T C Boyle, Alice Munro, Sefi Atta, they keep me up at night.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I look out for creative freedom, even though I listen to good counsel, but I prefer to have a sort of creative freedom and to work with editors and publishers that understand the culture and the experimental quest that informs the work.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
More e-books, more publishing houses catering for niche audiences, and more books.
What genres do you write?
Literary Fiction, Science Fiction, Fantasy
What formats are your books in?
Print
