What inspires you to write?
There are these stories that form in my head, like with my debut novel, Androne, that I can't shake off. I keep thinking about these ideas. And the only way to stop thinking about them is to write them. It's like there is a mystery in these ideas that I need to solve and once I solve it (by writing it) only then can I move on.
Tell us about your writing process.
As a writer, I normally have multiple ideas swimming around in my head at a time. It tends to be the more developed of those ideas or the more exciting to me, that I write. And therefore I don't outline. I need to work my way through the story to understand it and understand the characters; I can't do that in the outlining process. Once I finish I go back through the story now reshaping the mess that I've created, so the second draft is almost like outlining in a sense.
Who are your favorite authors?
I think Dan Simmons is probably my favorite author, even though he only wrote one novel series that love, that's enough. Hyperion and its sequels are the novels that not only keep me up at night reading and rereading but there are also the novels that keep me up thinking deep into the night about their ideas. Claire North is also a writer I highly respect and enjoy her work. And though he isn't an author, have to give love to the Bard, William Shakespeare may be the clichéd response, but he is that for a reason.
What genres do you write?
Science Fiction
How did you choose the genre(s) you write?
I think science fiction gives a window into the future on occasion. It's that aspect that I love. The idea that imagination can forecast how technology will change human lives, and sometimes, very rarely these ideas invent the future to come. Some little boy or girl reading these stories grows up to the invent some version of the technologies they imagined in that book.
What hobbies do you have when you need a break from writing?
Basketball, Basketball, Basketball. Watching basketball, playing basketball, and coaching my nephews in playing basketball. I also enjoy a great video game experience, world-building. I also love a good hike as a writing break.
What formats are your books in?
