What inspires you to write?
As a youth one of my favorite hobbies was reading. The love of reading sparked the passion to write. Writing has been an outlet to release my feelings and hopefully share valuable information with readers.
Tell us about your writing process.
Oftentimes the writing process begins with things that are happening in my life or society. When thoughts pop in my mind the brainstorming session begins. Once a topic is decided a general outline is developed. After the outline I normally just write what comes naturally.
Who are your favorite authors?
There are so many great authors. A few of my favorite include Iyanla Vanzant, T.D. Jakes, and Maya Angelou. This list is short however as a book reader I am always reading every week oftentimes picking up new authors like Shadaria Allison as well as classic authors. I Know Why the Caged Birds Sing and Soar are books I can read over and over again.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
Deciding to self-publish or working with a publisher was a big decision. There are advantages and disadvantages to both options. Determining my goals as well as my time and resources significantly impacted the decision. Self-publishing is appropriate when you are familiar with resources and have established relationships with graphic designers, editors, etc. Having used both options as an author I would lean more towards publishing independently if you access to necessary resources to ensure success with your book.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
The book publishing process has become more streamlined. In the future most authors will probably self-publish. The tools for self-publishing are becoming more readily available. Since traditional bookstores are declining most books are sold online which makes self-publishing a viable options.
