Author Bio:
Award-winning, internationally bestselling author Alexa Aston’s Regency and Medieval historical romances bring to life loveable rogues and dashing knights and the strong women who tame them. She uses history as a backdrop to place her characters in extraordinary circumstances, where their intense desire for one another grows into the treasured gift of love.
A native Texan, Alexa lives with her husband in a Dallas suburb, where she eats her fair share of dark chocolate and plots out stories while she walks every morning. She enjoys reading, Netflix binge-watching, and can’t get enough of Survivor or The Crown.
What inspires you to write?
All the characters talking inside my head! I want to tell their stories and entertain readers.
Tell us about your writing process.
I do a little of both. I always start with the names of my hero and heroine and from there create detailed character sketches. Based on their personalities, plot (and the necessary research) comes next.
I do broad outlining but allow my characters to guide me as I begin writing. I hit the main points I've decided upon but often find my people have a mind of their own and add to their stories as I write them.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do talk to my characters. I allow them to speak dialogue in my head as I walk each morning. Sometimes what I have planned for them is not at all what they want to do! I'm always open to change and allow their stories to unfold organically.
Who are your favorite authors?
I enjoy reading many genres. I write romance and some of my favorite authors are Tessa Dare and Sarah MacLean. In crime fiction, I like Michael Connelly. For general fiction, I enjoy Lee Child and Stuart Woods.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I am published with Dragonblade Publishing, owned by the Queen of Medieval Romance, Kathryn Le Veque. Kathryn believed in me and helped me find an audience. Since Dragonblade only publishes historical romance, I am planning on self-pubbing romantic suspense and contemporary romances I've written.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I believe more authors will go the indie route and more boutique publishers will spring up to cater to a specific audience. I also think the audiobook market will continue to grow.
What genres do you write?
Regency Romance; Medieval Romance; Contemporary Romance; Romantic Suspense
