Tell us about yourself.
I love the mysterious, mystical, and diverse world we live in and believe that just because we cannot see it does not mean it does not exist. In addition to writing, my life encompasses around lively games with my bridge friends; practising Tai Chi; and hiking with my husband through hemlock forests and unspoiled nature trails in out-of-the-way places. A member of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia, I presently live in the Annapolis Valley.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My passion for history and nature, and growing up in Nova Scotia has had a great influence on my writing. I am a direct descendant of the 1753 German settlers of Lunenburg, and take an active role against the pollution, loss of biodiversity, and deforestation we are doing as humans. It is not only what we are doing to our environment but how we treat each other.
What was your journey to getting published like?
To have books traditionally published is a very difficult task indeed. I found this part of the journey much harder than writing.
What’s your favorite quote about writing?
{"If I create from the heart, nearly everything works. If from the head, almost nothing.
Marc Chagall (1887-1985)
When you’re not writing, how do you like to spend your time?
Bridge, gardening, reading, hiking.
How do you deal with negative reviews?
Realizing that not everyone will like my writing/stories; and to just move on from it.
How do you approach writing dialogue for your characters?
I put myself in that specific character.
