I am an English man living in Portugal with my Swedish wife, Eva, and our 2 dogs. I spent many years travelling and amassed a myriad of strange stories and experiences along the way. I hope to inspire and identify with people all over the planet and discuss and reflect upon this thing we call LIFE.
What inspires you to write?
So far, all my books are memoirs and inspired by the life i have led. So, I would have to say that life inspires me to write.
Tell us about your writing process.
I have been jotting down thoughts and ideas all my life. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with hepatitis C and spent one year heavily medicating in order to cure myself. During this period, I found the time to put together all of the scraps of paper and actually write the books I had always wanted to write. When I am writing a book the notes pertaining to that particular story are stuck up on the walls all around my office and I take them down as they are included, so as to be sure not to miss anything out.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I talk with the characters and write down what I say and hear. After that, I edit. My wife and I also role play.
What advice would you give other writers?
Follow your heart and do your best. Be honest with yourself, learn from your mistakes and welcome all constructive comments and advice even if you do not agree with it. Hearing real opinions from real people is real.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
After spending one year writing to literary agents in London and America and receiving some very positive ‘no thank yous’, I decided that I would approach Amazon Kindle. It seems a fair way for books that might not have a best seller audience to at least find their niche and find the readers they were intended for.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think it is great because stories have more chance of reaching the audience that deserves them. Publishing houses have always had a monopoly on what the world reads, largely governed by the amount of revenue a book is predicted to generate. Now, great stories with perhaps smaller audiences, have a chance to be seen and heard.
What genres do you write?
Memoirs, humor, philosophical.
