What inspires you to write?
My inspirations come from a number of different places. There could be a song that plays on the radio and the idea formulates or sitting by the water, people watching, and I am hit with inspiration. My most recent work came about because of an ad for a show. It was a freeze frame photo and “bang” the premise of a killer story was sparked. It literally is that simple on most days.
Tell us about your writing process.
My process is a little different. I tend to come up with the title, story line, and ending all at the same time. After that happens, the general outline is created to tell me where things should fit together. The scenes to the story development and lead me to what characters are needed and who gets a name and who just has a general reference. I call myself the puzzler because I have the borders all shaped and coordinated. The main picture is worked and reworked until the novel is complete.
For Fiction Writers: Do you listen (or talk to) to your characters?
I do a lot of listening with my characters. It’s nice to have the community of authors that I have. They all understand my “issues” and get that the voices that I hear in my head have everything to do with my next work. I’m not crazy. There are moments when I want to scream at the top of my lungs, “I’m telling you the truth” to all those outside of the author community. They don’t get the motions I make with my hands aren’t me attempting to get someone’s attention. It’s actually me trying to work through a scene.
Who are your favorite authors?
Right now, I have to say that dang Meghan March. She has The Dirty Billionaire Trilogy and I am counting down to the release of the last one in that series. I literally devour her books. I’m done in one day tops.
How did you decide how to publish your books?
I was originally going to attempt to go traditional when I began my journey to become a published author. As time moved on, I decided to go the self-publish way because I had a need to get my work to the public and the itch to see my words in print wouldn’t go away. I am not traditionally published as well. I still plan on publishing some works as a self-published author just because that is where I started. It’s a safety zone for me.
What do you think about the future of book publishing?
I think the future of book publishing is infinite. Even with all of the newcomers to the book world, there is still plenty of opportunity for all to have a good following. There are so many possibilities out there for all that want to make their work available. The opportunity is there, so why not take advantage of it.
